Acitrezza – Islands of the Cyclops

Explore the underwater wonders of Capo Mulini, a pearl of the Acitrezza coastline in the heart of the “Isole Ciclopi” Protected Marine Area.

During an archaeological survey conducted by the University of Catania between 1995 and 2001, eight ancient iron anchors and a variety of amphorae, dating from the Republican Roman age to the early Middle Ages, were discovered about 250 metres from the coast. These finds gave rise to the anchor archaeological trail, a unique experience within the marine reserve.

Thanks to the “tactile route” project, an underwater museum has been created that is also accessible to blind and disabled divers. Each exhibit along the route is accompanied by explanatory cards on both sides and in Braille, while seven ceramic copies allow the blind to enjoy the itinerary through their sense of touch.

Diving along this route, considered easy due to the rarity of the currents, is reserved for divers with an open water licence, offering a unique opportunity to explore the underwater history of Sicily.
