It stands at the junction of the two main avenues, <strong>Via Roma<\/strong> and <strong>Corso Italia<\/strong>. This area has characteristics that make it unique in the world. Local stone is widely used in local structures; churches and palaces have a <strong>baroque style<\/strong>. Barone<\/p><\/div>\nContinue along <strong>Corso Italia<\/strong> to <strong>Corso Mazzini<\/strong>. The city is divided into two large districts joined by a winding path. You can also enter Ibla by crossing three bridges, the <strong>Vecchio (or Cappuccini), Nuovo <\/strong><strong>and Giovanni XXIII<\/strong>, or descending a <strong>staircase<\/strong> of hundreds of steps. How can you resist this picturesque and inviting opportunity?<\/p>\n<ol start=\"4\">\n<li><strong> Tour of the Churches<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>Ragusa Ibla has <strong>at least 50 baroque churches<\/strong>. Let&#8217;s take a look at them.<\/p>\n<p>Between the &#8220;two Raguses\u201d, we can see the <strong>Church of Santa Maria delle Scale<\/strong>. The Church was rebuilt after 1693 and preserves some elements of the old layout inside. You can still see the three <strong>Catalan Gothic portals<\/strong> in the right-hand nave and another door with refined and elegant Renaissance forms.<\/p>\n<p>We proceed towards <strong>Piazza Della Repubblica<\/strong>, dominated by the <strong>Chiesa del Purgatorio<\/strong> with its beautiful Baroque portal.<\/p>\n<p>Heading up the <strong>Commendatore hill<\/strong>, we can see other two historical palaces in Baroque style: <strong>Palazzo <\/strong><strong>Cosentini<\/strong> and the 18th-century <strong>Palazzo Della Cancelleria<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>The majestic <strong>Church of Santa Maria dell&#8217;Itria<\/strong>, is tucked between narrow alleyways. The <strong>Knights of <\/strong><strong>Malta<\/strong> founded it in the 17th century, and the bell tower dates back to that period. The dome is covered with <strong><a href=\"\/en\/?p=12113\">Caltagirone<\/a> ceramics<\/strong>. Its intense blue colour makes it stand out against the softer shades of the surrounding roofs and buildings.<\/p>\n<ol start=\"5\">\n<li><strong> Cathedral of San Giorgio<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>From <strong>Via del Mercato<\/strong>, but also through parallel streets, we finally arrive in front of the <strong>Church of San <\/strong><strong>Giorgio<\/strong>, the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.duomosangiorgioragusa.it\/duomo-san-giorgio\/\"><strong>Cathedral of Ibla<\/strong><\/a>. The dramatic fa\u00e7ade has three levels of superimposed columns. Inside the Church, there&#8217;s a nave and two aisles divided by solid pillars.<\/p>\n<p>Looking over <strong>Piazza Duomo<\/strong>, we notice the whiteness of the stone, contrasting with an incredibly blue sky. Here we can enjoy a tasty and refreshing break. Sitting at a table in a bar, we order a delicious <a href=\"\/en\/?p=1731\"><strong>granita<\/strong><\/a>.<\/p>\n<ol start=\"6\">\n<li><strong> Circolo di Conversazione (Conversation Club)<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>From <strong>Piazza Duomo<\/strong>, we cross the pedestrian area to stop at the Circolo di Conversazione. If you think you have seen it somewhere before, you are definitely a fan of the <a href=\"\/en\/?p=47883\"><strong>Commissario Montalbano TV series<\/strong><\/a>. We can see the hall from the outside and imagine this place crowded as it was in the past. We can relax in the wonderful <strong>Hyblean Garden<\/strong>. Let&#8217;s enjoy a pleasant stroll through it, admiring the views. It is possible to see them visiting the <a href=\"\/en\/?p=47906\"><strong>archaeological excavations of Ragusa Ibla<\/strong><\/a>.<\/p>\n<ol start=\"8\">\n<li><strong> Castle of Donnafugata<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>The <a href=\"\/en\/?p=47869\"><strong>Castle of Donnafugata<\/strong><\/a> is among the most elegant castles in Sicily. It takes its name from the princess <strong>Bianca di Navarra<\/strong>, the protagonist of a famous legend. The princess was imprisoned in the manor by <strong>Count Bernardo Cabrera<\/strong> but escaped through tunnels leading into the surrounding countryside. Paolo Barone<\/p><\/div>\nInside the castle, we visit the <strong>Coat of Arms Hall<\/strong>. The frescoes on the walls represent the noble crests of the great Sicilian families. We will be amazed by the enchanting beauty of the <strong>hall of mirrors<\/strong>, the <strong>music room<\/strong> and the <strong>billiard <\/strong><strong>room<\/strong>. Don&#8217;t miss to visit the charming bedroom of the <strong>Princess of Navarra<\/strong>. All the rooms, the halls and the hallways are plenty of beautiful stucco and frescoes. A true masterpiece!<\/p>\n<ol start=\"9\">\n<li><strong> A food and wine journey through the Ragusa area<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>We begin by tasting <strong>pastieri<\/strong>, small pastries made of minced lamb and goat meat, seasoned with pepper, cheese and eggs, typical of the <a href=\"\/en\/?p=47966\"><strong>Modica<\/strong><\/a> area. We continue with <strong>scacce<\/strong>, thin dough sheets, stuffed with spinach or broccoli and ricotta, sausage and ricotta or even tomato and aubergine. These specialities are also called <em>impanate<\/em> during Easter.<\/p>\n<p>We can taste rabbit <em>a partuisa<\/em>, chickpeas cooked with pork. Typical of Ragusa is also a puree of broad beans called <strong>macco<\/strong>. Not to be missed is the <strong>caciocavallo<\/strong>, a cow&#8217;s milk cheese.
