Each of these islands \u2014 <a href=\"https:\/\/visitsicily.altrama.com\/lipari\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Lipari<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/visitsicily.altrama.com\/salina\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Salina<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/visitsicily.altrama.com\/vulcano\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Vulcano<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/visitsicily.altrama.com\/stromboli\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Stromboli<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/visitsicily.altrama.com\/filicudi\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Filicudi<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/visitsicily.altrama.com\/alicudi\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Alicudi<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/visitsicily.altrama.com\/panarea\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Panarea<\/a> \u2014 is a small paradise of exceptional variety, ideal for visiting on foot, with steep climbs from the azure sea below to reach summits of approaching a thousand metres. From the top there&#8217;s an exceptional view. You can compete to pick out the outlines of the more distant islands which look like prehistoric animals who&#8217;ve fallen asleep on the surface of the water.<\/p>\n<p>Don&#8217;t miss the climb to the two craters: the crater of <a href=\"https:\/\/visitsicily.altrama.com\/stromboli\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Stromboli<\/a>, crossing the black <strong>Sciara del Fuoco<\/strong> to the <strong>peak <\/strong><strong>918 metres above sea level<\/strong> with its clearly visible lava explosions (one every 5\u20136 minutes); and the crater of <a href=\"https:\/\/visitsicily.altrama.com\/vulcano\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Vulcano<\/a>, a <strong>Dante-like inferno<\/strong>, with sulphurous gases emanating from the earth and therapeutic mud, excellent for a relaxing hot bath.<\/p>\n<p>Every island has at least one itinerary difficult to forget.<\/p>\n<p>On <a href=\"https:\/\/visitsicily.altrama.com\/filicudi\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Filicudi<\/a> there&#8217;s <strong>Punta Lazzaro<\/strong>, reached with a path still covered with brambles; on <a href=\"https:\/\/visitsicily.altrama.com\/alicudi\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Alicudi<\/a> there&#8217;s <strong>Filo dell\u2019Arpa<\/strong> with its terracing and peasants still riding <a href=\"https:\/\/visitsicily.altrama.com\/andare-a-passo-dasino-per-la-sicilia\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">on the backs of mules<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>On <a href=\"https:\/\/visitsicily.altrama.com\/salina\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Salina<\/a> there&#8217;s <strong>Monte dei Porri<\/strong>, the <strong>Fossa delle Felci<\/strong> and the incredible <strong>Pollara<\/strong>, a half-submersed crater, where<em> Il Postino<\/em>, Troisi&#8217;s last film was made. On <a href=\"https:\/\/visitsicily.altrama.com\/panarea\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Panarea<\/a> there&#8217;s <strong>Punta del Corvo<\/strong> where you can enjoy the view over <strong>Dattilo<\/strong>,<strong> Lisca Bianca<\/strong> and <strong>Basiluzzo<\/strong>. <a href=\"https:\/\/visitsicily.altrama.com\/lipari\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Lipari<\/a> has<strong>Monte Pilato<\/strong>, <strong>Capo Bianco<\/strong>, the unusual <strong>pumice quarries<\/strong> of <strong>Porticello <\/strong>and the quarries of <strong>Caolino <\/strong>in <strong>Quattropani<\/strong>, with their polychrome pastel shades.<\/p>\n<p>Immersing yourself in the Aeolian islands, a <a href=\"https:\/\/visitsicily.altrama.com\/brochure\/siti-unesco\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">UNESCO<\/a> heritage site, is like plunging into an ancestral land, forged by rocks, waves and fire. Inhabited <a href=\"https:\/\/visitsicily.altrama.com\/itinerario\/parco-archeologico-delle-isole-eolie\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">since the Neolithic period<\/a>, thanks to its highly-prized obsidian and its fertile, volcanic soil, and then reshaped, century after century, by patient human hands, hands which built <a href=\"https:\/\/visitsicily.altrama.com\/larte-dei-muretti-a-secco\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">dry stone walls<\/a>, mule tracks, paths and lanes.<br \/>\nToday you can enjoy incredible panoramas in places where time seems to have stood still, and once more live a little like the gods who used to inhabit them, and whose presence is still tangible, in an area of rarified, unrivalled
