Festival of the Assumption of Mary and parade of the Giants

The festivities that take place in Messina on August 15th in honor of Our Lady of the Assumption are preceded by an originai and spectacular procession that is repeated

for five days and  which has as protagonists two colossal statues of giants on horseback, the Messinese Mata and the Moor Grifone, conqueror of the city.

Equally spectacular is the procession of the Assumption with the “Vara”, a grandiose machine that symbolizes the Assumption into the sky of the Madonna, among a crowd of angels.
